While there are still die hards that will stand by that, those that really understand Counter-Strike know that the transition from 1.3 to 1.5 was the result of one of the smartest, if not the smartest(rivaled only by Q3) FPS games of all time. The transition from say 1.3 to 1.5 was HUGE and most of the community hated it and pretty much considered Valve the devil. The community thinks they are right and they seldom see the perspective of the developer. If you just follow the community of any competitive game, the developer is always the villain and f you allow the community to control the way you develop the game then very quickly will your passion project cease to be that and instead it will become a community game that you're doing management on like some sort of custodian. I've been playing Counter-Strike/Street Fighter/Tekken/Quake for more than half of my life and as a developer, I would never consider making a competitive game. You have no idea how accurate this statement is. No jumps to perfect, and no paths to memorize.Īside from that the gameplay seems to be solid but shallow. Sure you can fuck around for a bit, but there is nothing to perfect/learn. Playing in a hollow box isn't fun, no matter how many toys you may throw in it. Ignoring these aspects in your map design will lead to bland, dull, and overall repetitive game play. You need to give players options by giving them paths, creating varied environments that ultimately allows them to form their own paths through the level. A hollow box designed to result in the most possible insta-kills/deaths within a period of time doesn't promote strategy.

DEAD."įor a map in a "fast paced multiplayer fps" such as this to feel really good and actually get a following you have to give players the option to actually create strategy. Some cover here and there, but they don't promote much more flow then "KILL NOW. From the ones I saw they are just solid cubes. Man, from the standpoint of a person who has spent a lot of time in level design, all I can say is they must have spent little time on these maps.
